Jerusalem:

Why the Hebrew Roots Matter

The faith of the New Testament did not begin in a vacuum. To understand Yeshua rightly, we must understand the Hebrew soil in which the gospel was planted.

A Jewish Messiah

Yeshua was born under the Torah, kept the feasts, taught in the synagogues, and read from the Hebrew Scriptures. To strip away His Jewish context is to misread Him. The root supports us; we do not support the root.

Remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.
– Romans 11:18

Reading with Hebrew Eyes

Many passages that seem obscure to modern readers open up when we recover their Hebraic background. The words for repentance, righteousness, and faithfulness carry a weight of covenant relationship that a purely Greek reading can miss.

The Scriptures Yeshua read and taught from were the Hebrew Scriptures.

Not Legalism, but Love

Recovering the Hebrew roots is not about earning salvation through law-keeping. It is about loving the God of Israel as He revealed Himself, and honoring the covenant story into which we have been welcomed by grace.

Conclusion

When we honor the Hebrew roots, the whole counsel of God comes into sharper focus. We see one continuous story, one faithful God, and one Messiah who fulfills every promise made to Israel and to the nations.
